Style Me for Spring – Part 3 – The Day Clutch

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but day clutches are all the rage and I am currently crushing on them big time.  They can make the simplest daytime outfit look so chic and polished.  So if you have one that you haven’t used in a while, it is time to break it out and let it see the light of day.  If you don’t own one, now is the perfect time to find one or two or three…lol Here are some examples of a few inexpensive ones I found online. Listening To Your Inner Voice

Yesterday morning I woke up and just felt a really strong urge to go to Ross. My inner voice was speaking to me.  It said, “you really need to go to Ross!” When my inner voice speaks I listen. So off to Ross I went. Now it also could have been that I had not been to Ross in a couple of weeks and was feeling withdrawal symptoms, but I’d like to think it was my inner voice…lol  The parking lot was full, but as I turned down the aisle directly in front of the store a car put on its reverse lights and I scored a great parking space.  It was like it was waiting for me to arrive, I kid you not. So I walk into the store and say “hello” to the security person.  Isn’t it funny how they stand up front and make sure to speak to you.  I think its to make sure that you know they are there, so you don’t try to steal anything or it could just be really good customer service…lol

Best Dresses of the Oscars

Did you watch the Oscar’s last night? Were you not loving the amazing dresses! It made me want to get dressed up and go to a ball. This post was originally going to be my top five choices for best dressed at the Oscar’s but I couldn’t decide which two to cut out.  Then I realized this was my blog, why did I have to pick only five…lol Seven is a lucky number isn’t it? Here are my picks for the seven best dressed at the Oscar’s.  I loved Octavia Spencer’s gown.  It was form-fitting, but not too tight.  The Tadashi Shoji gown showed off her curves  and accentuated her small waist.  Penelope Cruz looked like a princess in her Armani Prive custom creation.  The dress flowed beautifully.  All I can say is wow to Viola Davis! I loved the gorgeous green color of her Vera Wang and I’m feeling her new natural do’.  George Clooney’s (love him) girlfriend of the moment Stacy Keibler loved like a golden goddess in her amazing marches gown.  Jennifer Lopez didn’t disappoint, she always chooses sexy, look at me dresses and if I had a body like hers I think I would too…lol I loved the minimalist look of Gwyneth Paltrow’s all white ensemble by Tom Ford.  In my opinion all white and Tom Ford you can’t go wrong.  It was a risk and it paid off.  She looked amazing and stood out even though her gown was quite simple.  My all time favorite of the night though is Emma Stone’s Giambattista Valli gown.  The color was absolutely breathtaking! Did you have any favorites of the night?

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive

Viola Davis in Vera Wang

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli

Rainbow Sherbet

Pink and orange are not colors you would wear everyday, let alone pair together. But I wanted to be bold and colorful and again try something new.  I thought this outfit would be perfect on a vacation to some tropical island paradise and I remembered I already live on one.  So why not?

I Just Have to Ask You….ummm No You Don’t

The other day my husband, oldest son and I went to the commissary.  For my non-military readers “the commissary” is a grocery store on post for the use of the military personnel and their dependents. We made our first stop over in the fresh produce section like we normally do. While walking the aisles I remembered I needed celery.  My husband and son were an aisle over watching and waiting for me.  As I reached to pick up my stalk of celery a woman stops me and says, “you know I just have to ask you, don’t you”….and I look at her puzzled wondering who she is and what it is that she just “has” to ask me.  She then asks, “how tall are you?” Ahh I should have known, but my mind was on my celery…lol

In Retrospect – Part 3 – London

In honor of London Fashion Week and also due to the fact that I have been under the weather for the past couple of days and have no new style pics to post since I’ve been in my pajamas for the past 48 hours, I have decided to revisit my pictures from London.  The Mr. and I went to London in October of 2008 for the NFL game they have every year.  Our beloved San Diego Chargers were playing against the New Orleans Saints.  Being that we both are big sports fans, we had a great time at Wembley Stadium and visiting Wimbledon and also for me Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.  I got to hang out with a couple of british supermodels and one heck of a designer…hehe Of course can’t forget the awesomeness of the Beckham’s. We didn’t get to see as much as we would have liked, which I admit now was my fault.  I was a little over two months pregnant with our first child and all I really wanted to do was lay down, eat and sleep…lol.   Now remember when I first started this In Retrospect series I told you that my style was a bit ummm…er well non existent to say the least.  Well now you can see for yourself. But in my defense again let me reiterate I was just a little over two months pregnant with our first child and tired all of the time. Plus it was rainy, cold and gloomy and I just was not feeling trying to be cute.  I was more about comfort and trying to stay warm…lol  If we ever make it back to London I promise I now know how to dress comfortable, warm and stylish at the same time and I’m sure I won’t be pregnant…lol Enjoy the pics!

A Tall Drink of Water

I’m sure many a tall person has heard the saying, “you sure are a tall drink of water” at least once in their lifetime.  I myself have heard it quite a few times from both women and men of all walks of life, but normally always older (above 40) in age. Just recently while walking past someone I heard him say, “now aren’t you a tall drink of water”.  I smiled and kept walking. How does one properly respond to that?  Why yes I am!…lol or no I’m not water, I’m chardonnay…lol I mean seriously who came up with that, what in the world does it mean and why do people say it?…lol  I understand the obvious, that it is some type of reference to being tall and a compliment of sorts…lol But why don’t people just say “wow, you’re really tall!”…lol what does the reference to a drink and water have to do with me?  Do I look refreshing? Are you thirsty and want to take a drink?…hehehe  Little did I know I wasn’t to far off.

A Tall Drink of Water..Literally Speaking..lol

I Wish I Was Shorter, For Shoes!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m 6’4″ tall and very proud of my height.  I’ve always been tall, so I don’t know anything different.  Its only on rare occasion that I get any negative reaction to my height (actually only one time that I can remember) and it was more so embarrassing . I’ll make sure to share that story at another time. But back to this post.  I am in desperate need of new shoes. While aspiring for style and actually having to put some thought into my daily outfits, I’ve been hit with the realization that I need more stylish shoes.  When I look in my closet, I see tons of flats and flip-flop style sandals (remember I live in Hawaii).  I’m not saying that I don’t love my flats.  I really do adore my ballet flats and loafers they are classics and very chic, but I need some more variety in my wannabe “stylish” life. Yes I already know there is nothing stylish about flip-flops unless I’m headed to the beach or pool but they do work for certain bohemian style looks as well. ;)   So I’ve been on a quest to find some “hot” shoes and I’ve found myself frustrated.  I get  disappointed because I’ll find a pair of shoes that I absolutely adore and are at my price point, but when I click on the size it stops at ten or 11 and I’m like pushing the slider trying to force it, thinking magically the number “12″ will appear. It doesn’t and then I am crushed and off to search again. So I start searching again and lo and behold I come across a pair of shoes that make me drool and wait….. yes they do go up to a size twelve! So I start to do my little happy dance in my seat, until I start to read the details and more info on the shoes. Lo and behold I see that the heel height is a whopping 4″ or 5″.  Now as I said before I love my height.  I love being tall.  I even  love being really tall, but I need to be able to walk under a door sill without having to duck…lol  Now come on shoe people I know the same shoe can be just as stylish with a 2″ or even 2 1/2″ heel, which by the way is the maximum height I personally am comfortable with wearing….lol  So back on the shoe hunt I go. I’m not giving up and I know that the perfect shoes that fit all of my criteria are out there, somewhere, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit this is a time I wish I was a little bit shorter, for shoes. About 4″ shorter, gotta stay a six footer and the perfect 4″ shoes I found would make me the perfect height of 6’4″….hehe

I’ve included some pics and details of the tormenters below.

Steve Madden 'Partyy-R' Pump 5" Heel only go up to a size 10 (They have pretty rhinestone embellishment on the heel!)

Vince Camuto 'Korsi' Pump Goes up to a size 12 :) but has a 5" heel :( Such a beautiful color blue!

Via Spiga 'Sheri' Bootie 4" Heel and only goes up to a size 10 Who doesn't want a "cute bootie"? ;) hehehe

Ivanka Trump 'Gurdia' Pump Goes up to a size 12 :) but has a 4" heel Love the sexy corporate look of these shoes!

FYI : Nordstrom’s has a shoe clearance sale going on right now, which is where the looks pictured above are from.  Happy shoe hunting! :)

Style Me For Spring – Part 1- Metallics

Spring is fast approaching and if you’re like me you’re wondering what do I wear.  Well I’ve done my research from the Spring 2012 Ready to Wear collections and let me tell you, there were a lot of different trends.  Something for everybody, really.  So what I decided to do was pick my top ten favorite trends from the designers runway collections and present them in a ten part series. The fashion shows for the Spring 2012 were held during the Fall of 2011 and New York Fashion week for the Fall/Winter of 2012 just concluded Friday. I can’t wait to discuss those looks, but first things first.  The first trend for this Spring is Metallics.  There were lots of beautiful irridescent materials great for a bit of late night sparkle and shine. Below I’ve featured some of my favorite Metallic looks from the Spring 2012 shows, followed by my own interpretation of this Spring trend.
