Pretty Tall Style - Macy's Heart of Haiti

It is that special time of year that we get to experience the gift of giving.  Well with the Macy’s Heart of Haiti, Holiday Gifts with Purpose you can give the gift that keeps on giving. “The Heart of Haiti product line sold at offers sustainable income to Haitian artisans by allowing them to support their families with dignity and purpose.”  I was gifted two of the beautiful pieces from this line, the Metal Snowflake and the Metal Fir Tree.

Both of these ornaments are handcrafted and absolutely beautiful, but my love for them goes beyond the aesthetic.  My husbands mother was actually Haitian. So this project is very near and dear to my heart and I was so happy to be contacted to share it with you all.  Every time you make a purchase of one of these gifts you have the opportunity to make a difference.  With Macy’s Heart of Haiti, people are employed and can make a livelihood, doing what they love most.  How awesome is that!   You can watch short video showing how some these handcrafted products  were made herehere and here.  All products are available or click here.

Pretty Tall Style - Macy's Heart of Haiti

The devastating earthquake of January 2010 and the most recent hurricane in 2016, have made it virtually impossible for many Haitians to make a living. Heart of Haiti products are a beautiful array of handcrafted masterpieces that directly benefits artisans, enabling them to repair their homes, pay school fees for their children, and feed and clothe their families. Steady income means better nutrition, improved education, and access to healthcare. Now entering its seventh year, the Macy’s Heart of Haiti program continues its goal of helping Haitian artisans achieve economic empowerment through the sale of their handcrafted goods. Artisans receive 22 percent of the retail price for each item in the collection.

The Macy’s Heart of Haiti program offers new opportunities for artists to collaborate with US designers, strengthening artisan associations (like the Artisans Business Network), and inspiring and energizing their communities. Men and women are working together, gaining confidence and hope for the future. Master artisans who planned to leave the country are now staying behind to train the next generation. Macy’s Heart of Haiti is one effort in bolstering the tradition of rich and unique Haitian art.

I love the how these ornaments add a bit of heritage and the gift of giving to our tree,  as well as knowing that they were handcrafted by someone who is trying to make a better life for their family as we have ben blessed to be able to provide for our own.
