October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. So I am so excited to be able to partner with the Know Your Girls campaign to help raise awareness. When I was in my early thirties I had a scare. I felt a lump in my left breast while I was in the shower. It seemed to have come out of nowhere. After I got dressed I immediately called my doctor and I was able to get in to see her the next day. She felt the lump as well and scheduled me to have some tests done. Let me just tell you it was one of the scariest weeks of my life. The testing and waiting and not knowing. Fortunately for me it turned out to be a benign cyst that eventually went away on its own. But for so many others this is not their story. “Breast cancer affects millions of women every year. But did you know that black women in America are more than 40 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than white women? In communities across the U.S., black women are more likely to be diagnosed younger, at later stages, and with more aggressive forms of the disease.”

“The Ad Council and Susan G. Komen have teamed up to create “Know Your Girls,” a national campaign to educate and inspire black women to take charge of their breast health. By promoting resources that help women catch breast cancer earlier, we can help more women live long and healthy lives. please take a moment to visit KnowYourGirls.org
