Pretty Tall Style - Personal Style Blog of a Tall Girl - DIY Chambray Tie Sleeve Off the Shoulder Midi Dress - McCall's 7543 Pattern Review

It has been ages since I’ve made anything and needed an easy and fast project to complete to hopefully help me to get my sewing mojo back.  This DIY chambray tie sleeve off the shoulder midi dress was just what the doctor ordered.   I am obsessed with off-the-shoulder tops and dresses and want them in every single color.  But I saw a chambray midi length dress by Tibi and instantly fell in love with the look of the dress, but definitely not the $495 price tag. You can take a look at the $495 Tibi version here.  Totally out of my budget.  So I looked through my fabric stash and found that I had some chambray fabric in the same color and McCall’s 7543 was a great pattern to use to create something similar.  I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.  You can read my pattern review below.Pretty Tall Style - Personal Style Blog of a Tall Girl - DIY Chambray Tie Sleeve Off the Shoulder Midi Dress - McCall's 7543 Pattern Review

:: Pattern Review – McCall’s 7543 ::

Pattern Description: Misses Off-the-Shoulder Tops, Tunic, Dress

Pattern Sizing: L-XL-XXL, I cut the large.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes with the extended dress length.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were very easy to read and follow along

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like how simple and straight forward it was.

Fabric Used: Chambray purchased from my local Yardage Town store.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I omitted the pockets because I didn’t have enough fabric and also I extended the length of the dress to midi length.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I will definitely be sewing this dress again. I would love to make a couple more with pockets and varying lengths. I would definitely recommend for others to try.

Conclusion: Love this pattern! A very quick and easy project.

I first showcased this dress on the blog here. Thought it was time to take it out of the closet for another spin.  As you all know if you’ve been following my blog for some time, I like to re-mix pieces from my closet.  I am definitely not a blogger or person for that matter who only wears clothes or an outfit one time.  If I bought it for sure and most definitely if I spent my time making it. So today I’ve paired it with tie up sandals and to give it a relaxed feel I decided to pull it down and showcase it as an off the shoulder dress.

I’m thinking next I can break up the monotone with pops of color via either my shoes, bag or even a cardigan or blazer.  There are so many different options and color pairings.  This works for day dresses you may have in your closet.  Especially when they hit you at the knee because you can wear pumps, high heel sandals, flats or flat sandals. Day dresses can be paired with blazers, cardigans, moto jackets and denim jackets.  You can even wear a sweater over this type of dress, making it look like a skirt.  Use your imagination, sometimes it can be as simple as changing your jewelry, adding a belt or even your hairstyle.  As I pulled my straps down, maybe you can too or better yet , try wearing your dress backwards to see if that works for another option as well.  It is all about getting the most out of your wardrobe. So this dress will definitely be making a few more appearances on the blog. Hopefully my  diy palm print dress re-mix helps to get your creative juices flowing  to inspire you to get more out of your day dresses as well.
