You can’t really tell from these pics but this is an oatmeal and black stripe shift dress not black and white.  It’s more of a heathered tan color.  So if you go to the site to take a look and start looking for a black and white stripe dress just wanted to give you a heads up to the true color of this one.  I have quite a few black and white stripes so I was happy to see the oatmeal and black offered. It makes it look even more luxe.  Again the material of this dress is superb.  High quality medium to heavy weight fabric.  Perfect for the cooler temps with layers and will work for spring and summer as well.  It doesn’t show your lumps and bumps and if you sweat when it is hotter you don’t have to worry about the fabric becoming transparent.

Again I love these type of dresses all year long and they truly can be dressed up or down. Think about adding a blazer and some pumps, or a scarf and some statement jewelry.  For casual looks, just add sandals or even sneakers.  These types of  dresses can be re-mixed in so many different ways. white and black stripe shift dress + Black Quilted Vest

Hello lovelies!  My love for stripes continues, as well as adding pieces that I love and know will fit into my closet seamlessly.   This casual tee dress in burgundy stripes is one of those pieces.  What I love bout these types of dresses is that they are so easy to just throw on and they are as comfortable as pajamas.  I especially love throwing them on during spring and summer with sneakers as I am wearing today or sandals and a jean jacket. You can just change up your accessories, add a jacket, as I am today or a cardigan and even a blazer and you still look pulled together.   So when I spotted it available in tall on the Gap website along with a 40% off discount code and some rewards dollars I needed to use it was a no brainer to be added to my cart. I love how it matches perfectly with this burgundy faux leather moto jacket I picked up about a year ago from Forever 21.  I was shocked with the length of the sleeves, every now and then off the rack works for us tall girls, so if you see something you love try it on, you never know it just may work for you.  I also really love the weight of this dress.  It is not thin and cheap looking.  So it doesn’t show all of your lumps and bumps. As always you will see this on the blog again re-mixed.  It is available in regular and tall sizes.  I am wearing a large tall and it hits me just above the knee.  So this is a good one I would recommend ladies.burgundy stripes

diy red and black stripe maxi dress

Hello Lovelies, I hope all is well. Today I am featuring my diy red and black stripe maxi dress.  As I’m sure you all know by now I love stripes and when I ran across this red and black stripe stretch knit at my local Yardage Town I acquired 3 yards knowing exactly what I wanted to make with it.  Last year I remembered seeing a similar style dress in white and navy stripe from J.Crew and I loved that dress but did not buy it as I knew it would not be long enough for me.  So when i spotted this fabric I immediately knew that this was what I wanted to make out of it and I am so pleased with how it turned out. The hardest thing about making this dress was trying to match up all of the stripes on both sides.  As you can see from the picture above I did a pretty decent job although not perfect as I started to get towards the bottom it went a tiny bit astray but I am confident that as I continue to work with stripes I will get the hang of it. As we are in winter I decided to pair my dress with chucks and a quilted vest for the layered look.  In the spring I will be pairing this dress with sandals.  diy red and black stripe maxi dress

Pattern Review McCall’s 6886

Pattern Description: Misses Dresses

Pattern Sizing: Cut size 16

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that it was only three pieces for this top. Very easy to follow the instructions. Doesn’t require a lot of fabric. Easy to cut and sew right up.

Fabric Used: Red Cotton/Polyester Stretch blend acquired a few years ago from Fabric Mart in Hawaii.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I’m tall so I added several inches for a maxi length and also extended the sleeve length by a few inches as well to accommodate my long arms. I made side slits on both sides for ease of walking.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely be sewing this again!  I love maxi dresses and wear them all year long.  I definitely need this in a solid black and would like to make a white/navy stripe version as well.

Conclusion: I really love this pattern.  Would definitely recommend it to others.
