Shop My Look:
Hello Lovelies! I hope this mid-week finds you well. Today I’m wearing a celery green diy off the shoulder short set that I made with Simplicity 8124. I have to tell you I am really starting to get into sewing and finding myself more drawn to buying fabric as opposed to shopping for clothes and I hope you all don’t mind. Today’s short set was made using a celery green knit that I purchased from my local Yardage Town store. I initially planned on making the romper, view c of Simplicity 8124 but then realized I actually really like off the shoulder tops and wanted to be able to wear this top with jeans and other color shorts. So I hemmed my top and I added the elastic waist band to the shorts. I also added about 3 more inches to the sleeves and omitted the elastic. For my shorts I added side seam pockets. You know I love me some pockets and had to add them. I really love this diy off the shoulder short set for summer it is cute, comfy and chic. I can already envision various ways that it can be styled differently, also with the pieces worn separately. Also thinking of different color pairings for this beautiful celery color. So look out for a few more blog posts featuring these pieces.
Pattern Review for Simplicity 8124
Pattern Description: Misses Romper, Dress & Top
Pattern Sizing: Xsm-Xl, I cut a Medium for the top and a large for the bottom (not sure what I was thinking), definitely should have done a medium for the shorts as well.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes and no, you can see the foundation of the pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes very easy. I just did a quick glance over.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? How quick and super fast it was to sew.
Fabric Used: Celery colored double knit from my local Yardage Town store.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I initially planned on making the romper but changed my mind because I wanted to be able to wear the pieces separately as well because I really love off the shoulder tops, so I hemmed my top and I added the elastic waist band to the shorts. I also added about 3 more inches to the sleeves and omitted the elastic. For my shorts I added side seam pockets. You know I love me some pockets and had to add them.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will probably be sewing this again, as a two piece set, hoping to find another unique color for it. I just feel that I will get more use of of it that way. When I want the romper look I will simply tuck my shirt into my shorts and add a belt.
Conclusion: I really love this short set and very pleased with how it turned out. I really like this pattern, very easy and great for beginners. Will be using this pattern again for more summer short sets.
Thank you for stopping by!
