DIY Turquoise Off the Shoulder Top

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion and Sewing Blog - DIY turquoise Off the Shoulder Top - Color Crash Course - Turquoise and Red

Hello Lovelies! I hope you are having a fantastic weekend.  Today’s look is a casual one combining two bright and bold colors, turquoise and red.  As everyone knows by now off-the-shoulder is a big trend right now and I am a big fan.  I made this turquoise off the shoulder top using McCall’s 7163 View B for style, and view D for the length. My fabric was purchased from my local Yardage Town store and it is a cotton knit with stretch.  This pattern was very easy to use and I will definitely be using it again to make a couple of mini dresses that I can just through on and go this summer.  Today I decided to pair the turquoise top with pops of red and again wearing statement earrings that tie both of the colors together.

Pattern Review for McCall’s 7163

Pattern Description: Misses Tops

Pattern Sizing: Xsm-Sml-Med, I cut a Medium.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I did a combination of view B for the sleeves and view D for the body length.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes very easy.  I just did a quick glance over.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? How quick and super fast it was to sew.

Fabric Used: Turquoise cotton knit with stretch, purchased from my local Yardage Town store.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely be sewing this again, lengthening it for dresses and trying view A as well.  I would definitely recommend this pattern to others.  Especially for beginners.

Conclusion: I am really pleased with my top. I really like this pattern, very easy and great for beginners.  Will be using this pattern again for some summer dresses and tops.

DIY Fuchsia Sequin Midi Pencil Skirt

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion, Lifestyle and DIY Blog - DIY Fuchsia Sequin Midi Pencil Skirt

A throwback Thursday post to another one of my favorite day’s and outfit posts.   I am featuring this diy fuchsia pink sequin midi skirt I made using this gorgeous fabric I found at my local Fabric-Mart and created using McCall’s 9003. This is such a great pattern! You can create different skirts of varying length and they are all super easy.  I actually made three skirts in one day using this pattern.

I followed the instructions which were simple and easy to under and I cut view D for my skirt and added a couple of inches for the length on my 6’4″ frame.  This sequin fabric is stretchy and I love for the most part how the sequins on my fabric lay flat, so there was no snagging.  Feels smooth when I run my hands over it. When I first started sewing my sequin fabric got caught in my machine, I think it was because I started sewing to close to the edge.  So once I got it out and my machine back in order I Move the fabric back a bit and then then just backstitched to the edge and then kept going forward and it was smooth sailing from there.  Well kind of smooth until I had to clean up the mess afterwards, once I was done cutting and sewing, my room was a mess with sequins everywhere, but definitely well worth it with these finished results.Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion, Lifestyle and DIY Blog - DIY Fuchsia Sequin Midi Pencil Skirt

Last thought was thinking about what I wanted to wear with this gorgeous skirt.  I decided to keep it in the same color family and was happy to see that I had a top and blazer that went perfectly. Really trying to shop my closet more and now that my sewing mojo is back hoping to be able to create and wear things I’ve made.  All in all I am really happy with the way my skirt turned out and this look as a whole.  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Have a marvelous Monday!
