I’ve been trying to get my sewing mojo back and found out that making simple and basic pieces that I need in my wardrobe was a great way to start.  I have already made two of these maxi dresses so far and will be making quite a few more in other solid colors.  What I love about maxi dresses is that they can be worn all year long and styled in so many different ways.  I decided to style this diy black maxi dress with a leopard print scarf and denim vest after coming across a photo on Pinterest and realizing that I had all of the pieces in my closet to recreate the look.  I really love Pinterest because it allows me to get the most out of my wardrobe.  By adding a lightweight scarf and this denim vest t was a great way to create a “look” from a simple maxi dress.Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Style - DIY Black Maxi Dress + Leopard Print Scarf

So a few years ago I made this dress in a green stretch knit. I loved that dress and had to say goodbye to it when it was messed up during a trip to the emergency room where I was admitted and had to have surgery.  Well as I stated I really loved that dress, but I have to admit that I love this version even more because I actually had enough fabric to make the pockets and you know this tall girl loves a dress with pockets!  This version is made of a cotton stretch ribbed knit fabric in this vivacious orange color.  I love wearing bold and bright colors during the summer time and my mission this summer is to make a multitude of different types of maxi dresses in a bevy of colors and so far, so good!.  I decided to pair this orange dress with these turquoise statement earrings I found at Burlington Coat Factory.  I am just as obsessed with colorful statement making earrings as I am with maxi dresses right about now.  This has to be one of the most comfortable and easiest outfits to just throw on and go, yet I still look pulled together.  Perfect for brunch, running errands or simply lounging around.  This dress has me covered and I will be making several more of these.

Simple, cute and comfortable, these three words are right up my alley when it comes to getting dressed in the summertime.  When the temps start heating up and the bus have been driving me crazy from being out of school I need outfits that can be quickly thrown together but still have me looking put together and a maxi dress and denim jacket is the answer most of the time for me.  Especially since I’ve gotten my sewing mojo back and have been making these in various colors…lol  They are so easy to just throw on and go, love a look that doesn’t take much effort.  This one was super easy.  I’ve linked some grey maxi dresses above and I hope you all already have a denim jacket in your closet because it is a wardrobe staple, but just in case you don’t I’ve got you covered there as well.  Keep in mind this works with any color maxi dress as my accessories are all neutrals.  My maxi dress is straight down and as I’ve picked up some weight I prefer them to be fitted on my frame but not tight, so I throw on a wide belt to accentuate my waist and give me some shape. The denim jacket it the perfect layering piece, I decided to top it all off with my olive green statement earrings and pretty “P” initial necklace from Ainkas Jewels.  You know I love me some personalization and the P can represent pretty or my last name, depending on my mood..lol I switch intermittently between this letter P and the T, love these dainty initial necklaces.

Hello lovelies! Sorry for the intermittent posts the last week, my boys have been out of school for summer break for one week now, and I’ve had to do so re-adjustments and have now gotten my rhythm back.  I am happy to be back to our regular scheduled posting..lol  I’m also happy because I am wearing my happy color with this diy yellow maxi dress I made using Kwik Sew K4169 and the sunshine yellow ponte stretch knit fabric.  I’ve always been a huge fan of this shade of yellow and I am so excited to see that yellow is a big trend right now, so it’s fairly easy to find a piece you love in this color, but for us tall girls finding a maxi dress that is long enough, well not that easy, So I took matters into my own hand and created my own.  But don’t you fret I’ve linked some tall dresses that I’ve found available in yellow for those of you who don’t sew. I’ve paired my did yellow maxi dress with my denim jacket and again statement earrings.  I love how there are so many great earrings available right now.  They really do make a an outfit pop, although with this bright yellow hue, it does that on its own. I’ve finished the look off with the summer “it” bag, I really love this bag it also makes a statement on it’s own.
