Burgundy and Gold

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and Sewing Blog - Burgundy and Gold

Bold and bright in burgundy and gold. I made this quick and easy dress using New Look 6352 and a burgundy pique knit I purchased from my local Yardage Town fabric store. I used view B and added pockets to the side seams.   This pattern does not come with instructions for pockets, so I just used a pocket template I found online and printed out.  It was still quick and easy. This is a one hour pattern and adding the pockets only added an additional 15 minutes for me.  You know I love a dress with pockets and the addition was well worth it.  I cut this dress in the pattern size 14 as it is supposed to be very loose fitting. I plan on making this dress several more times in different colors and knits as it will probably be my daily uniform for running errands and hanging out with my boys this summer. It is just throw on and go. I decided to pair it with my yellow faux leather jacket from Zara, a recent purchase and my burgundy Pumas I’ve had for several months and turned out to be a perfect match.

DIY Palm Print Short Set

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Blog - Palm Print Short Set

I created this diy palm print short set from a rayon crepe fabric I purchased from Fabric Mart’s brick and mortar store in Hawaii.  When I purchased this fabric, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to make with it, but I figured whatever I made would be appropriate and tropical looking for the island, because of the palm print. Very logical way of thinking, minus the fact that it is brown/black and no some vibrant and bold color combination..lol

The Cobalt Maxi Dress

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion and DIY Blog - DIY Cobalt Maxi Dress and Chocolate Brown Belt

One of the main reasons I started sewing was because of my love for maxi dresses.  I like to wear them all year long, but one of the hinderances of being so tall is that I can’t just go and buy a maxi dress that will cover my ankles right off the rack, although sometimes I do get lucky.  Speaking of lucky, there are now quite a few tall retailers that offer maxi dresses a plenty, so you should not be discouraged if sewing isn’t your thing.  It just comes in handy when what you may be looking for at that moment isn’t readily available and you can whip it up yourself.  Which is what I did in this case.
