If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I have been without a relaxer for over six months. I decided to transition instead of doing the big chop. In the past six months I have cut off a total of six inches of my relaxed hair. Averaging about an inch a month. As the months have gone by it has been a bit difficult for me to manage the two textures, so I have been keeping my hair under wraps in a braided protective style underneath wigs. The wigs have made it easier because I haven’t had to “deal” with my current seemingly unmanageable hair. I had been trying different products some better than others and some just complete disasters leaving my hair feeling dry and brittle.
So I was excited to receive Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural products and very eager to try them.
I received Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural: Clarifying Shampoo, Deep Conditioner, Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner, Defining Curls Custard, and Shine Serum with Argan Oil.
I had the opportunity to use all of the products within a weeks time. The following two pictures are of my hair after using the products within a week and then setting my hair with a braidout and flex-rods on the end.
Last Monday I washed my hair with the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Clarifying Shampoo. I have to say that I am not a fan of it. After using it my hair felt like it was totally stripped. It was squeaky clean which I guess a clarifying shampoo is supposed to do, but for someone who doesn’t use a lot of product in their hair and therefor doesn’t have much build up, then I don’t think this was necessary. But I wanted to make sure that I tried all of the items I received. So rating the clarifying shampoo on a scale from 1 to 5 I would give it a “2”. Only because it does get your hair super clean, but it just seems drying.
After using the clarifying shampoo, I followed with the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Deep Conditioner. When I put this in my hair it was as if my hair exhaled, “ahhh”. My hair felt moisturized and soft and it was like it immediately was back to its usual, Okay well maybe not usual. It actually felt better than it had before. This deep conditioner is amazing and I love the way it smells. As I continue on my journey back to natural hair Pantene Truly Natural Deep Conditioner will definitely continue to be one of my go to products. I give this product 5 out 5. It’s a winner!
Following the deep conditioner I used the Defining Curls Custard. I used about a quarter size in my palms and rubbed them together and then spread it throughout my hair while it was still slightly damp. Then I braided my hair and put my flexi rods on the end and let my hair air dry while I slept. When I took out the braids my hair was not hard at all and I had definition and ringlets. For the first time my straight relaxed ends blended in seamlessly with my six months of new growth. My hair as a whole was soft to the touch, fluffy, full and pretty and it smelled amazing! On a scale from 1 to 5 the Defining Curls Custard receives a 5.
After taking out the braids and flexi-rods and separating my hair I put a tiny amount of Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Shine Serum with Argan Oil in my palms and rubbed them together and then applied slightly to my hair to add shine and it did the job and again the smell is amazing. It didn’t leave my hair feeling sticky or greasy and did I already say it smells amazing. Okay I did, but it rally does smell good. So based on a 1 to 5 rating, Shine Serum with Argan Oil receives a 5. Another winner that I will be adding to my hair arsenal.
This past Thursday I used the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner and again I am in love. I love smelling my hair. I love the way my natural hair feels and how I can see the curl pattern. It truly leaves it soft and more manageable and it is easier to comb out as well. I give the Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner a 5 out of 5 rating.
I have to say I am truly impressed with the Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural collection as a whole with the exception of the clarifying shampoo. I wish this collection was available when I first went back to natural six years ago. I definitely would have stuck with it and not be starting over now. It’s an added bonus that the shampoo and conditioner in this collection is affordably priced at $4.99.
