So I’ve been trying to go through my fabric stash and clear it out so that I can make way or room for new fabric.  I’ve had about 3 yards of this beige stretch knit for some time now and didn’t quite know what I wanted to make with it.  So I decided to pull it out this weekend and I just stared at it for a few minutes and then I started looking through my patterns, seeing which ones required stretch fabric.  I came across Simplicity 8386, which I had used previously to make a red long sleeve one shoulder top here.  And I ran across New Look 6288 which I knew would be the perfect accompaniment to the top for a simple, fast and easy make to get my sewing mojo going again.  Because the color and two piece set are very plain and simple and the beige is almost like a non-color compared to the bold and bright colors I am used to wearing I knew I wanted to jazz it up.  So I went to my closet and my eyes immediately landed on this leopard print blazer I’ve had from Zara for several years now.  It is of course standard sizing so what I did was let out the hem of the sleeve a bit and then re-hemmed it and it gave me about an extra inch in length on the sleeve, which made it perfect for me. I know the fashion rule book says that we shouldn’t mix animal prints, but I say wear what you want with what you want and that is what I decided to do for this look.  My Blazer is considered leopard print and my Clare V Clutch is actually cheetah print. I love the visual interest these two prints create here and I think it works because the rest of my look is so muted.  So where would I wear today’s look? I’m thinking it would be a great date night look for dinner and a show.Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Style Blog - DIY Beige Knit One Shoulder Top + DIY Knit Maxi Skirt

Hello lovelies!! I am so excited to share with you this diy madras plaid wrap dress that I just finished on Friday.  I purchased this madras plaid cotton fabric from my local Yardage Town without a clue about what I was going to make with it.  But I loved the colors and knew that whatever I made would be perfect for spring/summer.  Well I had recently made a Gingham Wrap Dress using Burda Style 6664 and I loved the way it turned out and decided that this plaid would look great as well.  I am quite pleased with the way it looks.  It was a beautiful day outside in San Diego and actually felt like spring, so I was happy that I was finally able to get outside to take these outfit pics to show off these beautiful spring colors in this plaid print.  I am a firm believer that if you love something buy it in several colors, so it was a no-brainer for me to do just that with this pattern.  I now own two cute dresses to put on heavy rotation this spring and summer.  Again for my newbie/beginner sewers I definitely recommend this pattern.

Hello Lovelies! I am super excited about today’s look! It features these cute diy pink and white stripe shorts I made using  See and Sew 6010 pattern (with modifications) and this cotton poplin fabric I picked up from my local Yardage Town fabric store. The pattern is actually for strapless romper or jumpsuit but I knew I busted wanted simple paper bag waist shorts and this would be a good pattern to alter for what I wanted.  I simply added a 4 inch waist band and 1/2″ elastic added into the wait.  I also made two carriers and attached one at each side of the shorts to hold the tie. To accommodate for my height I added 1inch to the crotch and voila I had the perfect length shorts for myself.  To make today’s look a bit more grown-up I decided to to pair them with my white blazer and bright pink pumps.  But I also plan on wearing these shorts in a more casual look with this same camisole and sandals as well as white sneakers and a tee, paired with a denim jacket.  Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Style Blog - DIY Pink and White Stripe Shorts + White Blazer

Hello lovelies!  If you couldn’t tell from my last couple of posts I am so ready for spring and over this cold weather.  So since I take my outfit pics indoor I figure I can go ahead with my spring style posts and maybe this will make the warm temps appear sooner.  fingers crossed…lol  Finally posting this cute diy black and white gingham  wrap mini dress.  I finished it earlier last month but didn’t quite like the length.  It stopped a little below my knees and looked very matronly, so I was trying to figure out how to salvage it and decided to cut it shorter a couple of inches above my knees and I am in love with it.  It was super easy to make and the directions were very easy to follow. I will definitely be making a couple more of these in various colors/prints to wear this spring and summer.  Keeping them the same length as this one.Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Style Blog - DIY Black and White Gingham Wrap Mini Dress

I decided to add a pop of color with sunshine yellow.  I’ve had this Phillip Lim x Target bag for several years now and I was happy when I found these Nine West flats at Nordstrom Rack (size 13) for under $40.  They were the perfect match for my bag.  It seems I’ve been adding quite a few pieces in this color as of late and love how it just adds that extra oomph to a look. What I love about this dress and look created today is that is truly fits my lifestyle as a stay at home mom, but allows me to be cute and pulled together as well.  Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Style Blog - DIY Black and White Gingham Wrap Mini Dress
