What I’m Wearing:

Dress: DIY using pattern, NewLook 6210 | Blazer: Charlotte Russe | Shoes: Payless | Necklace: Wal-mart | Bag: Kate Spade

As you all know I love maxi dresses! But what you may not know is that blue is my favorite color.  All hues of blue, from the palest baby blue to the darkest navy blue and the brightest cobalt blue. So when I can combine a multiple shade of my favorite color, it makes me happy.  When one of those pieces is something that I made, it makes me this tall girl even happier.  :)

My Pattern Review:

Pattern Description:
Misses dresses

Pattern Sizing:
10-22, I cut a size 14.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it did.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were very to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that it was very easy to follow the instructions and super fast to sew.

Fabric Used:
The pattern states it is for knits only but I took my chances and used a polyester/cotton blend with a bit of stretch and it worked fine.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added about 6 inches to the length of the pattern because I am tall and like for my maxi dresses to graze the floor. I omitted the split on the side and flared the skirt portion out on view A since I was not using a stretchy knit fabric and needed room to be able to walk in the dress.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would definitely sew this pattern again and recommend it to others who are beginners or someone who is looking for something fast and easy to sew.

Conclusion:
Fast and easy pattern, perfect for beginners. I am very pleased with how my dress turned out.

 emerald green diy maxi dress

Dress : DIY  (using Vogue Pattern V8915 and my  modifications)| Sandals : Payless (size 12) | Bracelets : Forever 21 | Bag : Coach

When I was making this emerald green maxi dress I had no idea how it was going to turn out.  I knew in my head how I envisioned it looking, but let’s just say sometimes my visions don’t always come to life as planned.  But this time around it worked out.  I wanted a maxi dress that dropped off the shoulder and draped the body after seeing a similar one on Pinterest. After I finished sewing this dress and tried it on I immediately thought ‘green goddess’ and knew I would finally be able to wear my matching gold cuff bracelets I had purchased from Forever 21 months ago.  Throw in a pair of gold sandals and my new Coach tote  (that my hubby and 2 year old son picked out for me for Mother’s Day) and my look was complete. What I love about this dress is that it is casual and comfortable, because it is made out of a cotton knit t-shirt material, but with my gold bracelets and sandals it kicks it up a notch  to casual chic, which I love especially being a stay at home mom.

I used Vogue pattern V8915 as the base for this dress.  I only needed to make a couple of minor modifications for the look I wanted.  I widened the neckline for the off the shoulder look.  I lengthened the dress to a maxi length for my frame.  I eliminated the pockets because I didn’t want them to show through the material and mess with the way it draped on me.  I used scraps for my belt (not on purpose…) I ran out of material..lol…rookie mistake.  I need to stop only buying two yards of fabric unless I know specifically what I’m going to make.  This was a very easy dress to make and I will definitely be making more in different variations and colors.

Dress : Alloy | Shoes : Nine West (Amazon.com) | Lips : MAC in Media

There is nothing subtle about a 6’4″ woman wearing a strappy 3″ sandal, a bold black and white, graphic chevron print, form fitting, to the floor maxi dress. Let’s not forget big hair and a vampy red lip. This mommy will be bringing sexy back when the hubby and I have our Mother’s Day dinner date.  As this outfit is hubby approved, I think his exact words were and I quote, “that by far has to me my favorite dress.” I think this dress will make quite a few strategically spread out date night appearances with the Mr.

Review : Teresa Stripe Maxi Dress from Alloy.com

I ordered this dress in an extra-large extended length size.  I normally wear a size 12-14 or large in most items and I probably could have gotten away with a large  in this dress.  The reason I decided to upsize was because I didn’t want the pattern to go out of whack by being stretched and I wasn’t sure how thick the material would be.  Also when white is involved with fabric, it has a tendency to show everything.  But this fabric which is a polyester/rayon/spandex blend was thicker than expected and a slip wasn’t  necessary.  I do have on shape wear to hold in all my jiggles..lol and there are no visible undergarment lines showing with this dress, which is a major plus.  What I also notice is that the pattern of this dress is actually quite slimming. My only issue with this dress would be that it does show quite a bit of cleavage and I’m thinking this is probably due to the fact that I upsized to the extra-large, so it is a bit roomier up that area. The extended length is 63″ long and as you can see from the pictures above, with my 3″ heels, it still grazes the floor on me. For the price (under $50), the way I feel and look in this dress, and the fact that my husband has favorited this dress, I would say that this dress gets a Pretty Tall Style stamp of approval.

You can find this dress here and as I’m writing this post it is currently on sale.

Today I am wearing probably one of my favorite diy items.  I have worn this dress five times already in the past few weeks since I made it.  Although this is its first appearance on the blog.  Although today I was going for a more polished looked by pairing it with a blazer, I have normally been wearing it pretty casual, by itself with flip flops for running quick errands.  If it would get a little cool or start raining I would just throw my jean jacket on and out the door I went still looking put together.  I could live in maxi dresses I tell you.  They make it so easy to get dressed in the morning.

I love saying the word fuchsia over and over again, or any word that ends in the “sh” sound.  Kind of like when Jan yells, “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha”, in an episode of The Brady Bunch.  Fuchsia is getting all of the attention here and well deservedly so, I love this color.

It was an organizational event day at a local beach for my husbands work.  I wanted to wear something comfortable, casual and cool.  I’m thinking maybe I should have belted my dress to cover the elastic waistband to make it a bit more polished, but since I knew this event was going to be at the beach and super casual so I decided to skip it.   I threw on my fedora and I was good to go. Keeping it simple, seems best for me.

Dress : Ross | Shoes : Enzo Angiolini (Nordstrom Rack) | Bag : Greece | Jacket : Old Navy | Necklace : Forever 21

I love the warm earthy tones in this look. Reminds me of a rustic sunset or something all good and earthy…lol I have to say that I think this is my favorite look so far.  It would be more representative of who I am or at least who i think I am. It truly reflects what I picture as my style, plus its super comfortable and looks effortless. The safari style cropped jacket I’ve had for over five years now and have only worn once before.  The maxi dress was one of my fabulous finds from, you guessed it again, Ross Dress for less.  Can you believe it was only $14.99!? Also notice how it skims the floor, goes to show that there are some “tall” finds to be found there, you just have to try them on you never know. ;)
