Happy Easter lovelies! I’m so happy to be back blogging. I thought today would be a great day to re- start my ootd looks. So I’m especially excited to be back with this palm print dress I made myself using Vogue 8645. It’s the perfect spring dress for this Easter Sunday. This gorgeous crepe fabric I found a couple of years ago at Fabric- Mart which was local to me when I was living in Hawaii. It had been sitting in my fabric stash for quite some time because I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to make with it. I pulled it off of my shelf and started going through my patterns and came across Vogue an knew it would be perfect for a easy breezy spring/summer dress. I love how this dress turned out! It’s figure flattering, has great movement and best of all POCKETS! Who doesn’t love a dress with pockets. Then we get to this black and white palm print and it was a match made in heaven. A lot of times I have problems with picking the wrong fabric for a sewing project but this is definitely a hit. This fabric was made for this dress pattern. The shoes I decided to wear with my dress were a recent Nordstrom Rack find. When I spotted them I was immediately drawn by the bold and different print. I figured they would make virtually any outfit pop, I didn’t even think about this dress. Then as I was putting them on my shelf it hit me, wondering if they would work with this dress. I guess it would depend on who you ask but I actually LOVE the way they go together and yet clash, if that makes sense. I guess that is what ‘personal style’ is all about, it really only has to make sense to the person who is wearing it, and in this case it makes perfect fashion sense to me.
Pattern Review Vogue 8645
Pattern Description: Misses Dresses and Sash
Pattern Sizing: Cut size 16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were very easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved that there were only a few pieces to cut out. I loved how easy the instructions were to follow. Very simple and clear cut.
Fabric Used: A black and white palm print rayon crepe fabric I picked up from my local fabric-mart in Hawaii about 2 years ago.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The alterations I made were slight due to the fact that I did not line the dress. I used bias tape around the neckline and armholes instead. The fabric I used was light to mid-weight and I wanted it to be light enough for spring and the summer heat to come and felt by adding lining it would limit the times I would want to wear it. Just personal preference.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes I definitely will be sewing this pattern again and I highly recommend it.
Conclusion:
This is a great pattern. I am really happy with how my dress turned out. It is a great ‘grown woman’ dress. Perfect for church, brunch and a daytime summer wedding. I love the cut, length, tie detail and especially the pockets. Who doesn’t love a dress with pockets!
Thank you for stopping by!
