DIY Paisley Blue Maxi Dress

Pretty Tall Style - Fashion and Lifestyle Blog - DIY Paisley Blue Maxi Dress

This DIY paisley blue maxi dress I made over a year ago I believe and still love it! It incorporates my favorite color blue and I love the print.  When I first wore this dress on the blog here.  The opening at the top was closed.  To change it up a bit I just slid it open for a different look.  I also plan on wearing this dress again later belted, worn with a shirt over it and tied at the waist, also by pairing a blazer and denim jacket over it.

Another way to easily change your look when re-wearing a maxi dress is by incorporating different accessories. For example today I am using my navy blue patent Kate Spade bag.  But next time I may use my black clutch or finally find a pretty purple bag I have been on the look out for…lolPretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion and Lifestyle Blog - DIY Paisley Blue Max Dress

I love maxi dresses because they are so easy to just throw on and go.  They are super comfortable and this especially because of the rayon challis material is light and breezy but opaque enough that I don’t have to wear a slip underneath.  So it is perfect for a hot summer day.Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion Lifestyle and DIY Blog - DIY Paisley Blue Maxi Dress

I’m wearing it with flats today, so you can see it easily sweeps the ground.  The best thing about making my own clothes s that I never have to worry about my dresses coming up short.  Plus the money I save.  This dress could easily be sold for $100, it only cost me about $15 in materials to make and was super easy using Pretty Tall Style = Tall Fashion DIY and Lifestyle Blog - DIY Paisley Blue Maxi Dress

Spring Green Maxi Dress

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion Blog - Spring Green

Today I’m wearing a spring green maxi dress that I made about a year ago.  I first wore this this dress here.  Today I decided to pair this diy maxi dress with cognac accessories for a different look.  What I love most about this dress is the vibrant spring green hue! You all know I’m a sucker for color.

This dress is so easy to wear and super comfortable.  It can be dressed up or dressed down.  It is perfect for when you just need to throw something on and go.  I plan on getting a lot more use of this by pairing it with blazers, cardigans and other color accessories for even more looks.

DIY Zebra Print Maxi Dress

DSC01954_pp

Now let me tell you all about my DIY zebra print maxi dress! I’ve wanted a maxi dress of this style for quite some time.  I’ve always seen them sold and worn beautifully by others, but never have I found one that was long enough on me to graze the floor.  So I knew once I started sewing that I would eventually attempt to make one of my own.  But I was intimidated and kept putting it off, thinking it would be too hard to do.  Boy was I wrong.  Ladies this was one of the easiest pieces I have made thus far and I am so mad at myself for not trying it earlier.  I love this dress and how it turned out!

I’ve had this fabric for over a year now just sitting in my stash.  When I purchased it I knew it would be made into a maxi dress, just wasn’t sure what style or when. It is a gorgeous rayon that drapes and moves and flows.  It’s is light weight and easy breezy, so perfect for the warm temperatures. I was drawn to the bold print and the ivory, black and tan tones. As I was looking through my maxi dress patterns I came across McCall’s 6744 and knew this is what I had been saving this fabric for.DSC01971

I decided to have an Angelina Jolie moment so I could show you all this dramatic slit which only opens this far when you force it too as I am doing here and showing off my big ol’ gam…..lol  But when I walk it is a more subtle opening as seen in the very first picture.  DSC01974_pp

That pattern I used to make this beauty was McCall’s 6744.  It’s states easy right on the from and It really is.  I would definitely recommend this pattern to beginner sewers and I will definitely be making a couple more of these dresses!  The pattern calls for 2 1/2 yards of 60″ fabric because of my needed extra length I used 3 yards of fabric.  I added 2 inches to the bodice and just about 5″ to the skirt piece.  I purchased this fabric from my local Fabric-Mart and it was only like $5.99 a yard.  So yes this dress was less than $20.  I’m telling you ladies if you haven’t already started, you may want to start sewing…lol

Highlighter

Pretty Tall Style - Everyday Style Blog

Today I’m a human highlighter in my neon yellow and hot pink….lol But I think I qualify as a classy cute one, who is ready for spring  and church on Easter Sunday. My neon yellow blouse is Worthington and tall size from JCPenney.com.  I purchased it a few months ago and on sale.  I love the gold plated tips added to the tie neck bow as well as the matching cami that comes with this blouse.  It is attached via snaps which I think is ingenious because you can always keep it together when hanging in the closet but then you can unattached the cami and wear it on its own or paired with something else.

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion BlogMy hot pink skirt was a diy project I made this past winter using Vogue 8363.  I hope to get a lot of use out of it this spring and summer by pairing it with different colors tops.  This is my second time wearing it, the first time was with black, last seen here.

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion BlogI accessorized with my hot pink Coach bag and floral print hight heel sandals.  These shoes were a fantastic deal at a steal of a price from Payless.  They are so perfect for spring and summer and pair very well with so many colors.  Love them!

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Fashion BlogLast, but not least my hair!  Some of you may have noticed that it has magically grown overnight…lol  No I’ve brought my big and curly wig back out to play.  My hair is at the mid awkward length stage where “good” hair days are far and in between.  It has had a life of its own these past couple days.  So to quell my frustration and avoid straightening it via a relaxer or flat iron I’ve decided to don my wig for a while, as it continues to grow out and my need to straighten it passes.
