Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Blog - Equestrian Prep

Hello Lovelies! Today its all about Equestrian Prep, don’t you just love theme inspired style.  If you’ve been following me for a while then you may know that I don’t have one particular style.  I just love fashion and clothes and because of this I have a tendency to just buy things based on the simple fact that I like it.  I rarely look at something and think that’s my style.  I look at it and say that’s cute, sometimes without thinking about what I have already in my closet to pair with it.

Well I saw these chocolate boots on sale at Nordstrom several weeks ago and thought those are cute, the price is amazing and I need boots.  I loved that they were true over the knee boots on me and I also really loved the deep distressed brown color, so I was sold.  I ended up purchasing them in this chocolate brown color and in black.  For the sale price it was like getting 2 pairs of boots for the price of one, so I couldn’t resist. I didn’t really think about what I had in my closet to wear with them or even what I would wear them with for that matter.  I really need to stop doing that, but in this case these boots turned out to be a great purchase!

Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and DIY Blog - Equestrian PrepThey were sitting in my closet staring at me saying you need to wear me before spring comes.  So I went to my favorite social media site, Pinterest! I tell you I can spend hours on there (and sometimes I do, cough, cough) looking up all kinds of outfit inspiration and crafts for my boys.  Well I typed in brown over the knee boot outfits and came across a whole lot of inspiration.  This look right here was one where I had all the pieces and really loved the equestrian prep style.  I have ridden horses before so I’m not faking the funk, well okay they might have been ponies when I was a kid but that still counts doesn’t it…lol. So someone please buy me me a horse, so I can have a reason to dress like this all of the time…hehe

Review: Long Tall Sally Check Trench

Review-Long Tall Sally Check Trench- Great Fashion Blog for Tall Women - Clothing Reviews and Outfit Inspiration

Hello Lovelies! Today I want to share with you my thoughts on the Check Trench that I received courtesy of Long Tall Sally.

Pretty Tall Style - Fashion Blog for the Everyday Tall Girl - Review of Long Tall Sally Check Trench

Long Tall Sally was kind enough to send me this gorgeous navy and ivory gingham trench coat from their new Spring collection.  Can I just say that it was love at first sight.  From the pictures online it appealed to my classic, preppy and fun nature by its looks alone.  Then when I received it in the mail, and opened the package, I was so giddy because it looked even better in person.  When I tried it on, it was a dream the sleeve length was amazing, the fit of the jacket was perfect and I loved the details such as the navy buttons, decorative belt cuffs at the wrist and the pockets.

I like the matching belt but would have LOVED it, if it were longer, so that it could be tied at the waist. That is actually the only miss with this trench.  Do you see how long the sleeves are on this trench, love it! I measured my coat and the sleeve length from the shoulder to the wrist is 28 1/2″ long. The measurement across the back from the seams is 17″ wide.  The length of the trench from just below the collar to the bottom hem is almost 42″ long. As you can see in the pictures it stops just above my knees. For reference I’m wearing the U.S. size 12 and I would say it fits true to size.  I have a thin knit sweater on here and I don’t feel confined at all and the buttons are not pulling.

What I also love about this check trench from long Tall Sally is that it is structured but not stiff and heavy.  The gingham trench itself is 100% cotton and rain proof. It is light to mid weight and fully lined with a navy polyester fabric, which makes it perfect for spring time temperatures.  It comes with extra buttons, (which you can kind of see in this picture below, towards the inside bottom of the trench because I forgot to cut them off…lol). I truly adore this trench and I promise you I am not just saying that because it was given to me.  It just fits perfectly, I love the quality and the stitching and you know I love me some gingham! I would give this trench 4 out of 5 stars, with the one star reduction being that the belt is too short to tie, that would be all.  Pretty Tall Style - Tall Women's Fashion and Lifestyle Blog - Long Tall Sally Gingham Trench Coat Review

I decided to pair my new navy and white Long Tall Sally check trench with bright pink, but I see myself pairing it with kelly green, purple, red and orange in the near future as well. Today I dressed it up in a professional manner with pumps. trousers and a sweater, I think this trench will be just as lovely dressed down with jeans and my navy hunter wellingtons.  I will try pairing it with a skirt and a mini-dress as well.  So if you were on the fence about this check trench from Long Tall Sally, hopefully I’ve answered some of your questions.

DIY: Lace Print Maxi Dress

Pretty Tall Style - Fashion Lifestyle and DIY Blog - Green DIY Lace Print Maxi Dress

Hello Lovelies! I know its been a while since I’ve posted and I apologize.  I’ve been busy with my mommy and wife life plus I’ve suffered a few losses in my family the last few months of last year that just had me feeling kind of blah and not really in the mood to blog.  As you all know if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram that My dad passed away unexpectedly in September and then less than two months later my grandfather on my mom’s side passed away and about a month after that my uncle (dad’s brother) passed away.  So as you can see the tail end of 2014 was a bit rough and I was glad to see that year end.  I just stayed focused on my boys and am so grateful to have a supportive husband.  Anyway, I am back now and hope to get things rolling here on the blog again.  So I am happy to be back and I am so excited about todays post, which you know usually means I’m featuring something that I made myself.  Today it is all about my green diy lace print maxi dress. I found this fabric at fashionfabricsclub.com and it was only $4.95 a yard.  I purchased 4 yards.  The pattern I used was New Look 6301 and I purchased it from my local Wal-Mart  for only $2.97. So yes this lovely dress only cost me about $25 to make when you throw in the thread. I cut view C of New Look 6301.

This dress was really easy to make and very fast to sew.  From cutting to sewing I would say it took me about three hours total to make. The modifications that I made were the following: I added 2 1/2″ to the sleeve length and extended the bodice length an additional 3 1/2″.  For the extended maxi skirt length I wanted I didn’t really measure the additional inches, I just held the fabric up to me at my waist and marked it off at the length I wanted and then placed the pattern on it and extended my cutting down to my preferred length.  Which you can see is sweeping the floor and I am wearing about 3 1/2″ heels. I made this dress before the holidays with the intentions of posting it as a Christmas or holiday party look but never got around to posting it.  I’m thinking it would even make a nice Valentines date night dress as well.  Currently this is one of my favorite pieces that I’ve made thus far.  I can’t believe that such an inexpensive fabric and pattern, plus my still novice sewing skills could mesh together so well to create something so pretty.  The icing on the cake is my hubby loves it as well!
